Sylvie + Jordan began their 6 yr long courtship in high school and it took them through HS and into college and on! These two grew up together and evolved together, something they say has been a true gift to their relationship! Jordan planned an elaborate proposal in Hawaii while the couple vacationed together. We love to hear from brides themselves and were delighted to hear from Sylvie and learn about their love + their wedding. Thanks to the High Pines for sharing images with us and thanks to Sylvie for sharing her thoughts on wedding planning!
Planning our wedding was so much fun, but it was hard work! I work in Government, not event planning. I really underestimated how much goes into planning the big day. I know hindsight is 20/20, but I do look back and think I should have balanced certain parts of wedding planning better. First and foremost, make sure you put you and your fiancé at the top of your priorities. We made sure to dedicate chunks of the week to us, and not to wedding planning. It is also helpful to give enough time to the process. Our engagement was 7 months, and it goes by so quickly! Remember to make decisions early on about what matters most to you, and what matters most to your future spouse. It is very easy to get wrapped up in all the little details, so plan out the most important parts from the outset. We were very lucky to have supportive friends and family who helped throughout our engagement and wedding day! Another piece of advice that I found very helpful, is to pick three words to describe how you want your wedding to be, and make your decisions based on if they match those words! For me? Romantic, Elegant, Fun. Finally, don’t get caught up in making it the “perfect day of your life”. I don’t think that is the point of weddings and marriage. We wanted a fun and memorable day to start our marriage off right! And I am certainly very lucky to have found a supportive and loving husband who was willing to help me every step of the way.
