We are super excited to have the great team at Perfectly Suited by Garth on UBB today sharing their top 7 tips for sorting out the groom’s fashion for your big day! This company is a reputable source for high quality custom + stock formal clothing for men, (including for men on really special days of their lives) and for tailoring. We appreciate their influence in the wedding industry a great deal! Thanks for joining us guys!
Start the process of getting your suit early: Don’t be the groom that comes to us on Monday saying he is getting married on Wednesday and needs a suit. We’ve done it before and we can still work with that, but really? Alterations can take from 3 days up to a week. If you want to get a custom suit, it takes 4 weeks to arrive and then plan on another week in case there needs to be any tweaks made. As a rule of thumb give yourself 2 to 6 weeks to get your suit. Also, don’t forget that you may want to use your suit for bridal photo shoots, so take that into account.
KISS (They’ll be plenty of that, but we are talking about keeping it simple stupid.): Don’t get a suit with a pattern in it, unless its super subtle. A pattern will just add complexity that could potentially clash with everything else that is going on. With that in mind, you don’t want your outfit to be boring. Add small details that will make your outfit just as special as your big day. These could include a pocket square (keep it white or another solid color), cuff-links, suspenders, or a monogram on a custom shirt.
Make sure that your outfit is different than your groomsmen: It’s your day and you’ll want to be the best dressed guy there. The best way to make sure that everyone knows who the groom is is by making yourself stand out with what you wear. Put your groomsmen in a suit that is either a different color or different shade than the suit that you are wearing. Or have your groomsmen wear just the pants, and not the full suit. But just because you’re supposed to be the best dressed guy, don’t skimp on your groomsmen. You’ll look that much better if you’re surrounded by a group of well-dressed guys.
Keep in mind the weather weather: Here in Utah we have four seasons, and what you wear should change with each season.
Get your suit tailored: This is so important, guys. You want to look your best and we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, “Fit is king.” A $150 suit that is tailored to fit your body can look a million times better than a $1000 tux that doesn’t fit right. Spend the extra $50 to get your suit altered. If you’ve got a little more cash to spend on your suit, consider going custom. Our custom suits start at $649 and gives you the ability to design the exact suit you want. We offer an endless selection for design, style, and fit that allow you to make the suit uniquely your own.
Don’t rent your wedding attire: Rentals are made to fit all different body shapes, and there is a good chance that it won’t fit you like it should. We offer a great selection of suits starting at $125 that will get you the fit and color you want. Make the investment now, because there is a good chance that the suit you wear on your wedding day will become useful down he road.
Shoes: This is a big one. Most people don’t even think of their shoes. It’s a complete afterthought, and that can be a big problem. First, is the issue of which color of shoe to wear. The general guideline is that black shoes go with black, gray (all shades) or navy suits and brown shoes go with medium gray, light gray, all shades of blue, and tan suits. Second, is something that our female counterparts have already learned. Shoes really can make or break an outfit. So when it comes to your wedding day, make sure that your shoes are on point. Shine them. Or get a new pair altogether. If you don’t know how to shine your shoes or you just don’t want to deal with it, there are shoe repair shops that will shine them for $4. Its worth the small fee. Don’t forget about the shoes.
Thanks guys for joining us with these great tips! Brides start thinking about the men in the bridal party, especially that groom and get down to Perfectly Suited by Garth! Have a great weekend!
